Chapter 3 - Search Results & Song Details:Once you have selected your search criteria and clicked on the Search button, MusicSource will display all the compositions in our library that match at least one portion of your query in a "Search Results" page:
This chapter of the tutorial contains the following sub-sections:
Let's take a quick tour of the Search Results screen - starting at the top line under the main navigation bar. Number of Songs Found:To the right of the "Search Results" label, look for the display that tells you "109 songs found" - this is the total number of compositions in our library that match at least one of your search criteria.Back and Forward Page Arrows:At the far right of that coloured bar, find the "Back" and "Forward" triangle-shaped arrows in the circles that surround page numbers. For 5 or fewer pages, click on the page numbers to move from page to page of search results. If there are more than 5 pages of results (as there are here), use the arrows to move from one set of 5 pages to another. In other words, to view pages 6 through 10, click on the arrow at the right side. You cannot use the arrows to move from one page to another - they will only take you from one set of pages to another. Column Labels:The next line of descriptive text provides labels for the columns of the search results displayed in the upper half of the split screen - Keep, Listen!, Title, Description, and Score.Keeper Checkboxes:The checkboxes to the far left side of the search results can be clicked to "Keep" the details of a composition in your search result (see the chapter on Using Keeper for more details).Listen Icons:Click on the Windows Media Player icon (IMAGE?) in order to listen to a full length version of the composition. For more details on this feature, please see the chapter on Auditioning Music.Titles:Composition titles are listed in the next column of the search results. To view all of the song details for a particular composition, click on its name in this column, and the information will now be displayed in the lower half of the split screen. Descriptions:The Description column offers a set of descriptive keywords for the piece of music. You can search for other pieces of music that have these keywords in the Keywords search section of the MusicSource Finder section. Scores:The Score percentages given in the next column tell you how well the composition matches your search criteria. If the score is 100%, then all criteria have been met. This will always be the case if you only specified one criterion in your search - for example, if you only searched for music that included the acoustic guitar as an instrument. But, if you used more than one criterion in your search request - for example, if you search for:
Genre = Easy Listening a screen like this one might come up:
Note that the first two songs match all 3 of the criteria (so their scores are 100%), but that the next three only match 2 of the 3 criteria (so their scores are 66.67%). Back, Start Over & Print Buttons:The three buttons at the far right of the upper split screen are used as follows:
Back: Once your changes are complete, click on the Search button, and a new set of results will be displayed. If your search returns no results, you have most likely used too many criteria, or criteria that do not make sense together. For instance, searching for Beethoven and Hip-Hop probably will not return any songs. Try removing extra criteria that may be interfering with your search and click the Search button to perform the search again, or ....
Start Over: Printing All Search Results:When you click on the "Print" button, you will get a screen that looks like this:
Choose which details you wish to have printed for each of the songs in your search result by selecting one of the choices in the drop-down menu at the top right of the screen. Then click on the "Print" button to the far left of that menu. The Lower Half of the Split Screen:The lower half of the split screen displays the complete song details for the song that has been selected in the top half of the split screen.Change song details by clicking on a different song title in the top half of the split screen. All of the song details for each composition are shown, including the details about which CD it comes from.
The right side of the lower split screen shows the CD number and name that this displayed song comes from, along with:
Printing the Details for Just One Song:Returning to the main Search Results screen:
you can choose to print only the details for the song that is listed in the bottom half of the split screen (like "Lady in Waiting" in this example) by clicking on the "Print" button that appears to the far right of the heading that says "Song Details":
Here you will have the opportunity to click on the "Print" button in this screen and obtain a printed copy of just the details for this song. These are the same details that are displayed on the bottom half of the split screen in the main search results. Displaying Other Songs on the Same CD:Click on the underlined CD Number and Title at the right side of the lower split screen to display the complete contents of that CD:
You can:
The track and time information for each song on this CD is also displayed in this lower half of the screen. The next chapter of this tutorial explains some of the details about the Listen / Audition feature of the MusicSource interface.
