Chapter 7 - Using PROJECTS - the Saved Results Feature:

The Projects feature in MusicSource allows you to create and manage different music projects.

It stores a variety of information for each production, including titles, dates, budgets and music use.

When you mark a song using the checkboxes in either the Finder or Explorer features, they are placed in your Keeper file.

From the Keeper file, you can move songs to any open Project, including a new one that you would like to create.

Remember that the contents of your Keeper file will be purged after each MusicSource session, so if you would like to save the results of a search, you must use the Projects feature.

This chapter of the tutorial contains the following sub-sections:


Starting a Project:

To initiate a project, mark at least one song that you wish to save in either Finder or Explorer, and then click on "Keeper" in the upper navigation bar.

Click on the "mark" checkbox at the left side of this screen, and then click on the "Add to Project" button on the right side of the screen:

This will open the User Login and Registration screen:

If you are already registered as a MusicSource user, fill in your Login Name and Password and proceed to the "Add to Project" section, which is described below.

Note that you can click on the checkbox to have MusicSource remember your Login name, but that you will may always have to enter your Password manually.


MusicSource User Registration:

If you have not yet registered yourself as a MusicSource user, click on the "Register" button at the top of the User Login and Registration screen, and fill in the form which appears on the next screen:

The User Registration form is straightforward - be sure to complete all of the required fields before you click on the "Register" button at the bottom of the screen.

After you have clicked on the "Register" button, the following things will happen.

First, you will see a screen that thanks you for registering, and it will provide you with a "Continue" button that will allow you to use the Projects section to store your search results permanently, print them for records, and share them with a colleague (see the Sharing Projects chapter for more information about this feature).

Second, you will receive an automated email reply telling you that your request for User Registration has been received and that as a registered MusicSource user, you are now able to create, save, print and share projects every time you login to the Projects section of the MusicSource interface.

Your MusicSource account will also be established to permit 4 downloads of high quality Westar Music files. If you experience any difficulty with your MusicSource account or with our download process,please contact us . Either email your Production Consultant, or send your request to downloads@westarmusic.com.

When your user account has been approved for download access, you will receive another email to confirm that you are now one of our download customers.

You will then be able to download CD Audio quality music for your productions from our Web site.

More information about the MusicSource Download process is available in the Download chapter of this tutorial.

Remember that you must apply for a Laser Drop Synchronization License if any music that you download is used in a production. For more details on this process, please see the Licenses chapter in this tutorial.

After you have registered as one of our MusicSource Users, clicking on the "Add to Project" button will allow you to enter your Login Name and Password, and then proceed to Project Management, which is described in the next section of this chapter.


Adding a Song to a Project:

After you have logged in to your MusicSource account and clicked on the "Add to Project" button to add a song into a Project, you will have to select an existing project from the drop-down menu or create a new Project in order to copy the songs that you marked in your Keeper file.

Once you have made this selection, click "OK" and MusicSource will open the Project to display its properties and the list of songs that are currently contained within it.

This Project Manager screen allows you to administer all of the information about a Project: its title, type, date, principals, lengths, status and other details.

A listing of all songs currently associated with the Project appears in the lower half of the split screen.


Editing Project & Song Details:

The buttons at the far right of the upper split screen in the Project Manager section of MusicSource allow you to edit the currently open Project, print its details, delete it, or close it.

To edit the properties of a Project, click on the "Edit" button.

All of the fields that appear in the Project Manager screen will be displayed in a format for editing.

Once you have completed your changes, click "OK" to return to the static version of this screen.

To view a list of other Projects or work on another, click the "Close" button to end work on the current Project.

To view details about any song in a Project, click on the Open icon that appears to the right of the song's name in the lower half of the split screen entitled Project Details.

If you wish to edit any of these details, click on the "Edit" icon instead, and the Project/Screen Details screen will open to display all of the current details for that song's use in the Project, ready to be edited.

You can also sort the Song titles by clicking on the "Sort" button at the right side of this split screen.

Time Code Visual time code marking when the track is used
