Searching by Title:Since the Explorer is designed for browsing, you do not have to enter all of the words in the title - but note that this section of the search engine is looking for the first word or few words in the song title. So, if the composition is named "In Stride" and you enter "stride" into the Search field and click on "GO", you will not get a search result. If you type the word "in" into the Search field and click on "GO", "In Stride" will be displayed in the search result, along with "Innovation". Typing a percent sign (%) into the Search field will display all of the entries for the selected category. The Song Details pane will display in the lower half of the split screen once the search results have been displayed in the upper half of the split screen.
Searching by CD:In this section of the Explorer feature, MusicSource automatically displays the CDs in the Westar Music Library in reverse order (most recent releases first), and in pages that contain 20 CDs at a time:
Once again, the "Back" and "Forward" triangle-shaped arrows in the circles that surround linked page numbers will let you display more results. Click on the page numbers to move from page to page of search results. For 5 or fewer pages, click on the page numbers to move from page to page of search results. If there are more than 5 pages of results, use the arrows to move from one set of 5 pages to another. In other words, to view pages 6 through 10, click on the arrow at the right side. You cannot use the arrows to move from one page to another - they will only take you from one set of pages to another. To display the complete contents of any CD, click on the underlined CD number in the top half of the split screen, and its song details will be displayed in the lower half of the split screen. The lower half of the screen also contains a picture of the CD cover and you can audition the full length version of each composition from this display by clicking on the Windows Media Player icon found to the left of the composition title. More details about each composition can be obtained by clicking on the composition title in the lower half of the split screen.
Searching by Composers:Clicking on Composers in the Finder toolbar brings up a search screen similar to the Title search screen.Enter the composer's last name in the Search field and click on the "GO" button, or type in a percent sign "%" to obtain a full list of all composers:
Clicking on the "Details" button to the right of the composer's name will display all of the songs written by this composer in the upper half of the split screen, and the individual song details in the lower half of the split screen:
As with previous displays like this one, you can:
Clicking on the "Find" link will take you back to the opening screen of this Explorer section. Similarly, you can:
Use the "Back" button that appears with these search results in order to move back to the single song detail display. And, all of the versions of a song can be auditioned by clicking on the Windows Media Player icon to the right of each version's detail on the lower right side of the lower split screen.
Searching by Publishers:Clicking on Publishers in the Finder toolbar brings up an automatic list of all of the publishers whose works are represented in the Westar Music Library.
Clicking on the "Details" button to the right of the publisher's name will display all of the songs represented by this publisher in the upper half of the split screen, and the individual song details in the lower half of the split screen:
As with previous displays like this one, you can move between the pages of results in the upper half of the split screen by using the "Back" and "Forward" triangle-shaped arrows in the circles that surround linked page numbers, and you can listen to the full length version of each composition by clicking on the Windows Media Player icon that appears on the right side of the search results in the upper half of the split screen. Clicking on the "Find" link will take you back to the opening screen of this Explorer section. Similarly, you can print the song details for a single song by clicking on the "Print" button found to the right of the words "Song Details" in the lower half of the split screen, and you can display the full contents of the CD that contains that song by clicking on the underlined CD number and name on the right side of the lower split screen. Use the "Back" button that appears with these search results in order to move back to the single song detail display. And, all of the versions of a song can be auditioned by clicking on the Windows Media Player icon to the right of each version's detail on the lower right side of the lower split screen. The next chapter of this tutorial explains how to use the KEEPER feature of MusicSource to keep songs in a "holding" file so that they can be assigned to specific Projects for sharing and download.
