Chapter 9 - How to Use the MusicCart Download Manager:
There are a few steps to be followed in order to download music files from
MusicSource. After you have downloaded music once using the MusicCart Download
Manager, you will then have all of the software that you need for future
downloads.
This chapter will guide you through the process, step by step.
Requesting a Download:
To start things off, either create a Project by marking at least one song
in Finder or Explorer, move it from the Keeper to the Projects section and
either create a new Project, or open an existing Project.
You may have to login with your user account in the middle of this process
(if you have not already done so during this online session).
Once you have reached the Project Manager screen, click on the "Download"
button at the far right of the screen.
The MusicCart Download Manager:
The Download Manager will prompt you through 4 steps in order to complete
your download.
In Step 1 of 4, you will be asked to mark the version(s) of the song
that you wish to download. Then click on "OK".
Step 2 of 4 displays our MusicCart License Agreement. Click on "OK"
above the "Print" button at the right side of the screen in
order to accept its terms.
In Step 3 of 4, you will be prompted to download a version (PC or Macintosh)
of the MusicCart software to your hard drive, if you have not already
done so.
You only need to download this software once - it is required to decode
the files that you download so that they can be played.
To download the software (which you need to do only once):
- Click on either the PC or Macintosh download option
- Save the program to your local drive or desktop - a dialog box will
appear to permit you to specify the directory name, and you can also
check for the button that says "Show File Location" in the
blue "Saving From" dialog box that appears while the software
is being downloaded to your hard drive
-
Open and run the downloaded Setup Program from the directory that you
specified on your hard drive during the previous step - in Windows Explorer,
try double-clicking on the file named "mcartinstall.exe" in
that directory
-
During the software download, you will be advised to close all other
software programs that are currently running
-
By default, the software will most likely download to the following
directory: C:\Program Files\MusicCart
-
After the installation is complete, a dialog box will appear to allow
you to select the target folder where downloaded songs will be placed
(the default is C:\Program Files\MusicCart\save), as well as the format
(either WAV or AIFF) that you wish to have the files saved in. You can
also choose to always overwrite existing files when you download
- Once you have established a directory on your hard drive where MusicSource downloads will be stored, you might find it handy to create a shortcut on your computer desktop so that you can access that directory and your downloaded music files quickly and easily in the future
-
If you closed your Web browser, start it up and return to MusicSource.
Login to your user account and initiate the download process within
the Project Manager. Move through Steps 1 and 2 and when you reach Step
3 of 4, simply click on the OK button to go to Step 4 of 4 and start
your download. You do not need to download the software again - now
it's time to download the actual music file that you will be working
with
-
Step 4's download confirmation message will be displayed and when you
are prompted by the dialog box, click to open the file using the msctfile
program, and the downloading and decoding process will begin automatically
-
The file will now be saved in the directory you specified above (probably
the C:\Program Files\MusicCart\save directory), and you can double click
on the file name to play it.
Remember that once you have a copy of the MusicCart decoding software
installed on your hard drive, you will only need to click on the "OK"
button in the top right corner of the interface when you reach Step 3
of 4 in the MusicCart Download Manager.
